Contract end
When does your website contract end?
Hibu, Thryv, Web.com and many local agencies rent websites on contracts that often renew on their own unless notice arrives in time. Enter your website address: the tool looks up who hosts it and when the domain was registered, then estimates the end date and the last day to send notice.
What to do next
- 1
Find your contract and the lessor’s name
Rented sites are often financed by a separate leasing company. That company is usually who you notify: its name is on the contract.
- 2
Send your notice in writing before the date
By certified mail with return receipt, to the address in the contract, and by email too if the contract allows it. Keep a copy and the receipt.
- 3
Ask for the domain transfer code and your email
The domain’s transfer code (AUTH code), and an export of your mailboxes if the agency hosts them. Ask in writing, well before the end.
- 4
Have the new site ready for switch-over day
The new site should go live the day the old one goes off, at the same address: no gap, and your visitors never notice.

Common questions
How do I cancel my Hibu or Thryv website contract?
Send written notice before the date set by the notice clause in your contract, by certified mail with return receipt (and by email if the contract allows it). If the site is financed by a leasing company, that is often who you notify: its name is on the contract. What is possible before the end of the term depends on your contract; if in doubt, have a lawyer read it.
How can I find out when my website contract ends?
The exact date is in your contract or the signed order form. Failing that, the date your domain was registered is a good estimate, since agencies usually register it at signing. Initial terms vary: Hibu contracts are reported at 6 to 12 months, and other vendors differ. Your contract is the reference.
What happens if I miss the cancellation window?
Many contracts renew automatically: if notice does not arrive in time, the contract runs for another period. Its length is set by the renewal clause and is not always the same as the initial term: reread it, and note the next deadline.
Do I keep my domain name when the contract ends?
It depends on who it is registered to. If the domain is in the agency’s name or account, ask for the transfer code (AUTH code) and the transfer to your own account before the end date. The tool above shows what the public registry says about it.
What about my email addresses?
If your mailboxes are hosted by the agency, they often stop with the contract. Export your messages and contacts first, and set up new mailboxes on your own domain.
What is in the exit plan?
